Charity skydive helps Kenyan project
A project to build a new school in Kenya, has sent a team of brave volunteers to the skies in a bid to raise funds.
The seven strong team from Lloyd’s brokers and independent financial advisers, Lucas Fettes and Partners, will be taking part in a parachute jump in a bid to raise money for the “To Kenya with Love” project.
The charity which aims to improve educational opportunities for young people in rural Kenya, by providing better school buildings and teaching materials, have purchased a plot of land on which they plan to build a new school. The project aims to develop the capacity for self led growth, primarily through equipping schools with a solid resource base.
As part of Lucas Fettes’ corporate social responsibility, staff adopt a charity each year and hold a number of fundraising events on behalf of that charity. As part of their fundraising efforts, they decided to undertake the parachute challenge.
David Dilrew, director at Lucas Fettes comments: “The response from Lucas Fettes staff has been fantastic and we managed to put together a seven strong team, including managing director Robin Lucas for this event. But, it doesn’t stop there, we have a series of events running throughout the year, and two lucky members of staff will have the opportunity to go out to Kenya, and physically help out with the project.
The jump takes place on 28 May at Old Buckenham Airfield in Norfolk. The team will undergo ground training on the day, and will be attached to a qualified tandem instructor in readiness for the jump. They will exit the aircraft at an altitude of around 10,000 ft and experience thirty seconds of freefall followed by a parachute ride to the ground.
David continued: “We first heard about “To Kenya with Love” through a client, Steve Kidd who is one of the charity’s trustees. It’s an amazing project and we hope as many people as possible will support the challenge and give to this worthwhile cause. It’s nice to think our efforts will make a difference to future lives.”
